Ehime University is the largest university on the island of Shikoku. It is the first university on Shikoku to have a national government designated educational Center of Excellence, the Center for Marine Environmental Studies(CMES). The research done there is recognized world-wide. Also attracting international attention for top level research is the Geodynamics Research Center(GRC) and, the Cell-Free Science and Technology Research Center(CSTRC) was established to promote ground-breaking work in the field of cell-free technology.
In 2007 Research Center of Ancient East Asian Iron Culture(AIC) and Research Center for Space and Cosmic Evolution(RCSCE) was established.
Ehime University is the first national university to establish an English Education Center concentrating on communicative skills staffed by over fifteen native English speakers who lead classes limited to 20 students for more effective teaching. The Integrated Education Center is working hard with the faculty to develop teaching skills and encourage greater contribution to the local community.
The university encourages students to participate more actively in campus life and to give students a voice in university affairs. There is also a commitment to protect the rights of all students and staff members.
