Message from the President President's Profile

A Radiant Regional University, A Student-Centered University

Ehime University was established in 1949 as a national university by consolidating the Matsuyama National High School, the Ehime Prefectural Teacher’s School, the Ehime Prefectural Youth Teacher’s School, and the Ehime Prefectural Niihama Technical School. For the next 60 years, the university has been the center of scholarly research and has raised the intellectual and cultural level of this region. It has sent out into the world many excellent people in various fields. Since the university was privatized in 2004, we have made our aims to be a Student-centered,Radiant Regional University and we have incorporated cooperation in education, research and society in our activities.

A Radiant Regional University

I believe that the principal mission of Ehime University is to promote the training of human resources who will lead the growth and academic research to support regional development. Industry, culture, education and medicine are all fields in which we aim to provide a high level of knowledge and skills in order to deal with various regional issues by earning the trust of the local people, through thinking and working with them.

As we value basic research and research that is still germinating, we are striving to be a university which moves from the local region out into the world, creating world class research hubs in our special fields of the environment and biological life.

Student-Centered University

The most basic function of a university is to educate the next generation. At Ehime University, we are promoting educational reform and preparing a good environment from the standpoint of the student. From matriculation to graduation, our goal is for all students to acquire the skills necessary to live their lives as individual, independent people.

A university is a treasure chest of learning. There are many things to learn, not only in regular classes, but also in extracurricular activities. In order to have the strength to survive in society, it is especially important to be able to learn independently, to form one’s own opinions and express them to others and to work harmoniously within a group. At Ehime University there are many opportunities to hone these skills.
