Admissions and study at Ehime University

Q1:Would you send me application forms for the entrance examination of Ehime University?

A1: Application procedure, date and way of examinations differ depending on the faculty/ graduate school and year. Please check our website for information.

Q2: Is there a minimum score required for the Japanese Language Proficiency Test and /or English Proficiency test?

A2: No. But, if you would like to take courses which are taught in Japanese, we recommend you to have at least higher than a N2 level on the JLPT.

Q3: Are previous admission tests released?

A3: No.

Q4: When do the terms start?

A4: The 1st term starts in April and classes go to the end of July. The 2nd term starts in late September and classes go until mid-February.

Q5: I have passed the Monbukagakusho Scholarship primary screening and I would like to get a “letter of acceptance” from Ehime University.

Necessary Documents (Not returnable):

1. Certificate of preliminary selection issued by the relevant Japanese diplomatic mission.
2. A set of the same documents as those submitted to the Japanese Embassy/Consulate General (such as Application, certified academic records of the university attended, study program)
3. Official Form of “Letter of Acceptance”
4. Any additional documents required by the prospective advisor or administrative Office.

Q6: Can I transfer the credits that I get in Ehime University to my home institution?

A6: That depends on your university. Consult with your home institution’s student exchange coordinator or academic advisor.

Q7: Do you have programs which are taught in English?

A7: Yes, some of our graduate programs in the fields of Agriculture, Science and Engineering are taught in English. Almost all instruction at the undergraduate level is in Japanese with only four or five classes taught in English.

Exchange student/transfer

Q8: I would like to be an exchange student.

A8: Only students who are enrolled in a university which has an agreement of student exchange with Ehime University can come as exchange students. Please check at your international affairs office. Q9: Does my university have student exchange agreement with Ehime University?

Q10: My home institution doesn’t have student exchange agreement with Ehime university. Is there any way to study there?

Q11: Can I transfer to Ehime University?

A11: Yes, but transfer is very difficult. Please contact us by e-mail with your academic record, your current status and information about what you want to do at Ehime University.

Japanese Language Study

Q12: Do you offer an intensive Japanese language program?

A12: We have a 4-month course intensive course for beginners, but it is not enough to prepare you for Japanese used in the university classroom.

Q14: Do you have tuition waiver system?

A14: Yes. Foreign students are eligible to apply for a waiver of half or all of the tuition fees if their grades are high.

Q15: Besides financial aid, is there any other kind of support?

A15: There are many volunteer groups which help foreign students. One collects used household goods which are available to international students for free. Other groups provide opportunities to join many kinds of activities where you can make friends and experience Japanese culture.

Other

Q17: Is it possible to work part time to help pay expenses?

A17: You will be here on a student visa and you are not allowed to work. But it is possible to get special permission from the immigration office to work as much as 28 hours a week.

Q18: Do you have any dormitories?

A18: Yes, but unfortunately there are not enough rooms for all of our international students. But we can help you find inexpensive apartments (\20,000~30,000) near the university. http://www.ehime-u.ac.jp/english/admissions/before/housing.html

Q19: Do you support international students who want to get a job in Japan after graduating?

A19: Yes. We try hard to place our graduates in local and national companies.

Q20: What kinds of activities are available on campus?

A20: There is AISA which is the international student association of Ehime University. They hold social events throughout the year. ICO is a student volunteer group which plans events for international exchange. There are also many clubs You can make many friends and help each other.

Q21: I do not know anybody in Japan and I have never been there before. Is there any support for new students?

A21: Don’t worry; All newly arrived international students are assigned a tutor for their first year who will help with academic and everyday things. If you need an airport pick up that can be arranged.

Q23: Where are Ehime prefecture and Matsuyama city located?

A23: Ehime and Matsuyama are in the northwest part of the island of Shikoku, one of the four

Q24: What is the weather like?

A24: It is a temperate climate. The rainy season is from June to July. Winter is usually dry with lows of 2~3ºC and highs around 10ºC. Summer temperatures range from 24º~34ºC.
