Purpose

The Ehime University Charter states that the university will “strive to cultivate the creativity, character, and social nature of its students and to provide them with the practical knowledge, international communicative abilities, and analytical skills needed by individuals to live as independent members of society.” In order to realize these goals, the English Education Center plans and administers General Education English classes to develop practical communicative ability in English and, at the same time takes an active role of searching for ways to provide English education for the whole university through connection with the faculties.

Outline of the Facility

This center is composed of two sections ― the Planning and Development Section and the Educational Practice Section. The center maintains a continuous effort to develop teaching materials and improve the curriculum. English education aimed at the development of practical communicative ability in English is built around small, student-centered classes taught by a staff including a large proportion of native English speakers. Innovative classes making use of the MALL classroom equipped with multi-media equipment and CALL capability are also provided. In addition, a Self-Learning Room where English learning software can be used and an English Learning Student Support Room are available to support students' English learning activities outside the classroom.

In everything, from politics, economics, and the environment to our own daily lives, we are faced with the need to think about things on a global scale. In contemporary society, the acquisition of English, which is recognized as a common international language, will expand one's possibilities. No special talent is required to learn a foreign language. Anyone who has found a clear goal and whose motivation is serious can become able to use English. It may be a cliché, but practice does make perfect. The English Education Center provides practical classes that are the first step to using English in daily life. Please make the most of them.
