The entrance ceremony of the United Graduate School of Agricultural Sciences, Ehime University (UGAS-EU) was held on Friday, April 11, 2025. Those attending included the Presidents of Ehime University, Kagawa University, and Kochi University, and 14 new students.
President Hiroyuki Ukeda of Kochi University gave the following words of encouragement: “Embrace challenges without fear and actively engage in your research. Value dialogue with your advisors and peers, and deepen your learning by gaining valuable insights.
In today’s international society, researchers are expected not only to contribute academically but also to take on leadership roles in multicultural coexistence. I encourage you to look beyond the boundaries of your laboratory, foster meaningful exchanges, and build a global network that will enrich both your research and personal growth.”
In response, Shion Abe, assigned to Ehime University, said on behalf of the new students: “The challenges that agricultural science must address in the pursuit of a sustainable society are diverse, ranging from environmental issues to food security. We are committed to earnestly confronting these issues and aim to become researchers who contribute to the development of both local and global communities through forward-thinking and innovative research.”
After the ceremony, all attendees gathered for a group photo. The clouds cleared as if the continuous rain from the previous days had never happened, creating a refreshing atmosphere to welcome the new students. Though they stood at the threshold of their academic journey with a look of nervous anticipation, their expressions also revealed the excitement and hope for the student life that lies ahead.
