[Ehime University official] Shorinji Kempo Club
Self-defense starting from scratch
In Shorinji Kempo tournaments, there are two main types of competitions: demonstrations (similar to what is known as kata) performed in pairs, and operational methods (so-called matches in protective gear). In daily practice, we use a variety of methods, such as practicing techniques for each qualification and mitts. We also use operational methods to enable us to use the techniques we have practiced.
We practice on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at our own pace. We also have Saturday and Sunday as voluntary practice days for those who are serious about practicing, although we are not able to do so at the moment due to our current activities at the Corona Disaster.
Every year, we have joint practice sessions with Matsuyama University and other universities in Chugoku and Shikoku, so you can get to know people from other universities. The coach, Toda 7-dan, gives us proper technical guidance, so we can learn techniques that we can use in actual competitions.
If you are interested in Shorinji Kempo or would like to know more about what we do, please come to the 1st floor of the 2nd Gymnasium.
