Vice Rector of the University of Bucharest Gives Lecture

On May 14, 2019, Dr. Valentin Sorin Costreie, Vice Rector of the University of Bucharest, Romania, a partner university, was invited to give a lecture titled “Truth, Post-truth and Nothing but the Truth,” which was open to the public. Accompanying him were Dr. Anca Focseneanu, Director of Center for Japanese Studies, and Ms. Doinita Alina Cristovici, Director of International Relations.

Before the lecture, the delegation visited the Institute of International Relations to meet with Prof. Masatoshi Sugimori, Vice President of Ehime University, to exchange views on how to develop our partnership. At the meeting, Dr. Costreie showed his interest in promoting research collaboration especially in the field of philosophy and legal studies. He also mentioned that Erasmus+, which is a scholarship program supported by the European Union, could provide great opportunities for both universities to facilitate exchanges of not only students but faculty and administrative staff.

The lecture by Dr. Costreie was attended by about 50 people including university students, faculty and staff, and local citizens. The lecture was delivered in English and Dr. Costreie introduced his talk on how and by whom truth is established in a concise and clear manner, referring to “Post-truth” and the need for academics to present the whole truth to society in order to deal with the prevailing fake news.

Ms. Ilie Andreea, who has been studying at the Faculty of Law and Letters as an exchange student from the University of Bucharest, welcomed the delegation, wearing a beautiful bright red kimono.

Ehime University visited the University of Bucharest last October. We believe that our bond has been strengthened through these mutual visits and hope to further deepen our relationship in the future.
