On September 4, 2019, Ehime University invited Prof. Fran Solomon, Western Washington University, and Prof. Tyler C. Folsom, Washington University, to hold an on-campus seminar on Diversity Promotion. The seminar attracted approximately 40 participants including university executives, faculty, staff, researchers and students.
The seminar, which was led by Prof. Rie S. Hori, Special Aide to the President, as MC, started with opening remarks by Prof. Hiroshige Nishina, Vice President, and the main intent and purpose of the seminar were explained as well.
Prof. Fran Solomon, a board member of the Association for Women in Science (AWIS), delivered a lecture titled “A Network, Resource, and Voice for Women in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math”. In her talk, she introduced some practical programs implemented in the United States as well as current challenges and tasks facing the American scientific community and the AWIS toward the promotion of active female participation.
