On Thursday, August 21, 2025, Ehime University re-signed an agreement on academic exchange with Lurio University of Mozambique, the Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of Mozambique, and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
The signing ceremony was held as a side event of the Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD 9), which the Japanese government hosted in Yokohama from August 20 (Wed.) to 22 (Fri.). President Hiroshige Nishina, Special Assistant to the President Osamu Kobayashi, and Associate Professor Hideyuki Kurita of Ehime University participated in the ceremony at JICA Yokohama, where President Nishina signed the agreement with Lulio University President Leda Florinda Hugo, JICA Africa Division Director Hiroyuki Kobayashi, and others.
This agreement between the four institutions was signed in 2014, with the aim of contributing to the development of northern Mozambique, and for the four institutions to work together in the areas of development, public-private partnerships, and academic exchange. This time, the agreement has been re-executed in the form of an update with slight changes in content.
As for relations with Mozambique, the governors of Mozambique’s three northern provinces and the director of the country’s Northern Integrated Development Agency visited Ehime University in June of this year, and it is hoped that further progress will be made in educational and academic exchange between the two countries with a view to international development.
