On Monday, October 13, 2025, President Hiroshige Nishina visited Bogor Agricultural University, a partner university in Indonesia.
President Nishina paid a courtesy call on Vice President Alim Setiawan Selamet, Vice President Iskandar Z. Siregar, Vice President Deni Noviana, and Past President Herry Suhardiyanto of Bogor Agricultural University at the university’s headquarters building. Siregar, Vice President Iskandar Z. In addition to President Nishina, Special Assistant to the President for International Relations Osamu Kobayashi and Professor Noriko Shimakami of the Institute for International Relations attended the courtesy visit.
Following the courtesy visit, the delegation attended a meeting to discuss future exchanges between the two universities. President Nishina commented, “We have had a series of deep exchanges with your university in both education and research. In particular, through the SUIJI (Six-University Initiative Japan Indonesia) consortium, students from both countries have deepened their practical learning toward building a sustainable society by conducting service learning programs together in rural areas. Ehime University, as the largest comprehensive national university in Shikoku, hopes to further strengthen its ties with Bogor Agricultural University and build a more fruitful cooperative relationship in the areas of education, research, and community contribution. He also made a speech at the meeting. Vice President Alim, a graduate of Ehime University who completed the United Graduate School of Agricultural Sciences (Ph.D. program) in 2009, noted that many Ehime University graduates and alumni are working as faculty members at Bogor Agricultural University, and expressed his desire to strengthen the relationship with Ehime University.
Bogor Agricultural University is a leading university in Indonesia with 11 faculties and 1 graduate school, mainly in the agricultural sciences, and Ehime University concluded an academic exchange agreement and a memorandum of understanding for student exchange with the university in 2008. Since the signing of the agreement, the two universities have developed exchanges in various fields, including mutual student dispatch programs through the SUIJI Consortium, joint research in the field of civil engineering in the Faculty of Engineering, and the acceptance of young faculty members for degree study.
Ehime University plans to continue and develop multi-layered exchanges with Bogor Agricultural University in the future.
