On Monday, October 13, 2025, President Nishina Hiroshige visited IPB University, a partner institution of Ehime University in Indonesia.
At the main building of IPB University, President Nishina paid a courtesy visit to Vice Rectors Alim Setiawan Selamet, Iskandar Z. Siregar, Deni Noviana, and Former Rector Herry Suhardiyanto. From Ehime University, Professor Kobayashi Osamu, Special Aide to the President for International Relations, and Professor Shimagami Motoko of the Institute for International Relations accompanied President Nishina on the visit.
After the courtesy visit, both parties attended a meeting to discuss the future collaboration between the two universities. In his remarks, President Nishina stated, “Ehime University has built a close relationship with your university in both education and research. Through the Six-University Initiative Japan Indonesia (SUIJI) consortium, students from both countries have engaged in service learning in rural and coastal communities, deepening practical learning aimed at creating a sustainable society. As the largest comprehensive national university in Shikoku, Ehime University will continue to strengthen our partnership with IPB University, further enhancing collaboration in education, research, and regional contribution.” Vice Rector Alim, who completed his doctoral degree at the United Graduate School of Agricultural Sciences, Ehime University, expressed his intention to further strengthen the relationship between the two universities, noting that many Ehime University graduates and alumni are now playing important roles as faculty members at IPB University.
IPB University is a leading comprehensive university in Indonesia, comprising 11 faculties and one graduate school, primarily focused on agricultural sciences. Ehime University and IPB University signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for Academic Exchange and an Agreement on Student Exchange in 2008. Since then, we have promoted various collaborative activities, including student exchange programs under the SUIJI consortium, joint research in civil engineering within the Faculty of Engineering, and the acceptance of young faculty members for advanced degree studies.
Ehime University will continue to expand and deepen its multifaceted collaboration with IPB University in the years to come.
