On Sunday, December 15, 2024, the “21st Foreign Students Japanese Speech Contest in Ehime 2024” was held at the Nankai Broadcasting Honmachi Kaikan. This contest is held for foreign students living in Ehime Prefecture, and this was the 21st time it was held.
This year, 16 international students from 12 countries and regions studying at technical colleges, junior colleges, universities, and graduate schools in Ehime University entered the contest, and 8 students from Ehime University participated.
The contest was simultaneously broadcast live on Nankai Broadcasting Corporation Radio and Ehime CATV, and was also streamed live worldwide via the Nankai Broadcasting Corporation website.
The audience was filled with laughter and excitement as the contestants gave humorous speeches about the friendship between their home countries and Japan, their memories of Matsuyama, and their dialects. Some contestants wore traditional ethnic costumes for the contest, making it a glamorous stage. The level of the speeches improved with each contest, and the judging was very difficult, but two of Ehime University’s contestants won awards.
One contestant commented, “I have participated in speech contests in my home country before, but this time I was especially nervous. I would like to make the most of this experience and do my best in studying Japanese in the future.
After the contest, the contestants took pictures with each other and the judges mingled with the contestants, making it a memorable day for the contestants, the audience, and the management staff.
Ehime University will continue to promote the internationalization of its campus not only by providing Japanese language education and other support for international students, but also by collaborating with the local community.
