On Tuesday, October 14, 2025, President Hiroshige Nishina visited Polytechnic Mitra Industri University in Indonesia to sign an inter-university agreement on academic exchange.
The signing ceremony was held at Ehime University, located in Bekasi, a suburb of Jakarta, and was attended by President Nishina, Osamu Kobayashi, Special Assistant to the President for International Relations, and Professor Noriko Shimakami of the Institute for International Relations.
Prior to the signing of the agreement, President Nishina said, “Polytechnic Mitra Industri University’s philosophy of practical and international education in collaboration with industry deeply resonates with Ehime University’s philosophy of ‘a university that shines together with the community and connects with the world. I sincerely look forward to the development of student exchange and joint education in the future. We hope that through our collaboration with Ehime University, we will strive to nurture world-class human resources,” said Wikan Sakarinto, President of Ehime University.
The university is a new vocational training university established in August 2025 in MM2100 Industrial Park, where many Japanese companies have their factories located in the Jakarta metropolitan area, and consists of three departments: Information Technology Engineering, Manufacturing Technology Engineering, and Digital Business. The collaboration between Ehime University and MM2100 began when Prof. Shimakami and his colleagues met with Dr. Yoshihiro Koo, Vice President of Ehime University, in Jakarta in March of this year, through the introduction of Dr. Sigit Widodo, Ehime University’s international collaboration advisor, who is currently President of FUKUSUKE INDONESIA. In May of this year, President Wikan, Vice Chancellor Koo, and others visited Ehime University, where they exchanged opinions with President Kazuhiro Mitsunobu, Vice President for International Relations, and Special Assistant to the President Kobayashi, leading to the conclusion of the agreement.
Polytechnic Mitra Industry University emphasizes Project Based Learning (PBL) education in collaboration with companies in the surrounding area where the campus is located. Ehime University plans to contribute to the development of global human resources by implementing an overseas internship program with the university and accepting short-term international students.
President Nishina and his team then visited FUKUSUKE INDONESIA, located in the same MM2100 Industrial Park, where they exchanged views with President Sigit and others.
